What next – Clarkson on a recumbent?…

Isn’t it strange the way the world surprises you in ways you never thought it could? Perhaps it’s all part of the ageing process or perhaps we are just evolving ever faster.

We were surprised to learn that we got a mention in the Daily Mail recently (shhhhh!) Apprehensively I snooped about on their website and yes – there we were – listed as the Northern dealer for the Bakfiets Cargo Bike! What surprised me even more was the large feature about bicycles in general – a really diverse and excellent range of bikes to suit all….  And there is no but. I was expecting there would be yet there isn’t! It was simply a good positive article about cycling.

Maybe, just maybe there is really something happening in the UK with bicycles – there is still a long way to go but articles like this can only help. Thanks Daily Mail. (did I really just say that?)

Our ‘first’ blog….

July 24, 2010 1 comment

I say first blog but really we’ve been blogging for a while on a not-very-regular basis on our website – www.practicalcycles.com.

bikes from around the world

Cargo Bikes

New readers start here….

Who are we? Practical Cycles are based in the north west of the UK in Lancashire (about 10 miles from the city of Preston). We were ‘born’ about 3 years ago and started our humble business out of a garage and a dot.com e-commerce site. Since then things have grown and we sell a wide range of cargo bikes, delivery bikes, Dutch bikes, child transportation bikes and longbikes. We also sell a variety of accessories with the emphasis being on Practical and making carrying ‘stuff’ by bike as easy as possible. We love bike racks, carriers and luggage but we also like the natural side of bicycle accessories too such as leather saddles and cork handlebar grips. Theres also a fondness for handlebars – the more swept back, upright and elegant the better. We also have a great understanding of carrying children by bike – our range of Bobike and GMG seats will get you and your child out of the car and onto the bike for the daily school run.

So what’s this blog for?

We have to admit that we find opinions a little annoying – we all have to have at least one but sometimes we just prefer to present a few little facts, a few of our general feelings and let you decide the rest. In other words there’s no hard sell with us. In fact it’s quite the opposite – with our customers it the hard ASK – we really want to know what you want to do with your bike – the more we find out the more we can offer you options and solutions – the rest is your choice – price, quality and choice – you’ll find them all at Practical Cycles…..

…..Sooooo, getting back to the question – “why the blog?” It’s simple – we want to let you know what we are doing, have done, what new products we have, what’s on sale, whats coming in stock. whats selling out and what our customers are saying to us. We also want Practical Cycles to be more accessible to you.  Yes; we want to earn a living out of Practical Cycles just like a footballer wants to earn money from kicking a ball but the footballer also wants to win the world cup more! The driving (or riding) factor for us is that we are passionate about everyday cycling – cycling as a mode of transport – wherever you are going to and for whatever reason. It is that what drives us to encourage more people to embrace life on two (or maybe even 3 or 4) bicycle wheels and less so on the combustion engine.

So, come and visit us at our Cargo Bike Studio, visit our webpage or simply sign up to our blog to be enlightened about the amazing products and delights that await you in the world of Practical Cycling!….
